British and European Standards

BS 7950  is the British Standard specification for enhanced security performance of PVCu Windows.  It consists of three tests; Manual intervention, Mechanical Load and Manual Check.  The aim of this is to provide enhanced security against unauthorised forced entry.

BS 7412 is the British Standard product specification for the fabrication of PVCu Windows.  Security and manufacturing process tests are included, as well as subjecting the windows to high velocity air and water jets to test weather proofing.

BS EN 1279 part 2
specifies the requirements for moisture penetration and the long term test method for insulating glass units and ensures by means of an adequate evaluation of conformity to this standard that over time. Because BS EN 1279 is part of a European CE Marking scheme (Construction Products Directive), it is illegal for any installer to install replacement or new windows and doors that do not have kitemarked sealed units.

BS6206
- The British Standard used for classification of ‘Safety Glasses’ - ‘Specification for impact performance requirements for flat safety glass and safety plastics for use in buildings’. BS 6206 requires that the glass does not break or breaks safely (as defined in BS 6206) when subjected to a pendulum impact from a lead-shot filled bag weighing 45 kg. This impact method is designed to represent accidental impact from a human body.

BS EN 12608
All GHI windows are made from materials, which meet the requirements of BS EN 12608. This is the specification for PVCu extruded hollow profiles with heat welded corner joints for plastic windows. Materials are Type A. This means that plastic profiles and our windows are regularly tested by the British Standards Institute for quality and consistency.
